The Windows of My Soul: Spring (#4), Race (#5), The Gentleman (#6)

Here are three little poems written in 1958.

Spring (#4)

The leaves are green
The earth turned over
Oh! the sky’s so blue

Birds fly free
The sun beams down
Heaven smiles on me.

Race (#5)

God made me, little and white
God made you, big and black
God made her, with slanted eyes
God also made him, red though he be.

God made us all. He loves us all.
Why then? Can we not love
                       each other?

(Fall 1958)

The Gentleman (#6)

Gentleman, gentleman
                On the bus
Sitting on his posterior end.
Gentleman, gentleman
                On the bus
He lets the lady stand.
