Day’s End

Another villanelle…

Day’s End

As the day turns slowly into night
The whistle blows, it’s time to go
My eyes are drawn to the flashing light.

I sign my time card and leave the site
I’m depressed, my spirits are low,
As the day turns slowly into night.

Driving slowly, I know what I need tonight
I choose a place where no one will know –
My eyes are drawn to the flashing light.

They serve me drink, mixed just right
Dancing girls, I relax and enjoy the show
As the day turns slowly into night.

Time to leave now, not worth a fight
I’m too loud, I’m disrupting the show
My eyes are drawn to the flashing light.

Back on the road, blurry, fading sight
Crashing, spinning, I feel no pain, though
As the day turns slowly into night,
My eyes are drawn to the flashing light.
