Gentle Smile

Villanelle Style Poem

You and me, let’s talk for a while
I said to the girl sitting at the table
She looked at me with a gentle smile.

She had an essence, a sense of style
Wrapped in a scarf made of fake sable
You and me, let’s talk for a while.

To call you, what number should I dial?
Or join me for a walk, if you’re able
She looked at me with a gentle smile.

Together, holding hands, we walked a mile
Then we stopped by the house with the gable
You and me, let’s talk for a while.

I dropped to one knee, down on the tile
She accepted the gift, ignoring the label
She looked at me with a gentle smile.

I watched as she came down the aisle
It seemed straight from a fable
You and me, let’s talk for a while
She looked at me with a gentle smile.
