Who Killed Mister Dean?

Here’s the first Villanelle I ever wrote:

Who Killed Mister Dean?

Asked the policeman from the city
Of the suspects at the scene,
Is it the butler who is guilty?

Were they gathered just for tea
Out in the garden green?
Asked the policeman from the city

The body was found in the pantry
When the cook went there to clean
Is it the butler who is guilty?

Or could it be the maid so pretty?
With her the victim was last seen
Asked the policeman from the city

Who would believe? He was so witty
How could anyone be so mean?
Is it the butler who is guilty?

Since he alone shows no pity
For the death of Mister Dean
Asked the policeman from the city,
Is it the butler who is guilty?
