I Reached Out For You

I Reached Out For You

I reached out for you last night
But you weren’t there
An adolescent dream, I guess
Of you, the perfect woman.

I reached out for you this morning
But you weren’t there
You were making our breakfast
In the early dawn.

I reached out for you last night
But you weren’t there
I miss you when I’m traveling
Away from our home.

I reached out for you this morning
But you weren’t there
You let me sleep in today, honey
Please come back to bed.

I reached out for you last night
But you weren’t there
Overnight in the hospital, you sent me home
Because I still have to work.

I reached out for you this morning
But you weren’t there
I dreamed of you again, but you’re away
In a nursing home now.

I reached out for you last night
But you weren’t there.
