Hey all, I know you’re expecting me to post new poems every day. Well, tomorrow is the Thanksgiving holiday (in the U.S.) and part of a 5-day weekend for me. For normal weekends, I’ll set up and schedule posts while I’m away. I just don’t feel like doing that right now as I have a number of other things on my plate that I want to get done.
Suffice it to say, thank you all for your patronage. Perhaps this will give you time to go back and read some of the poems, blog posts, and entries in Kabize’s journal. At the same time, I get a little rest and by posting this, I don’t feel pressured.
Here’s my plan… After I return from the long weekend (next Tuesday,) I’ll resume posting. Each day I’ll post one of Brenda’s poems. To start with, I’ll post one of my Christmas poems, though probably not every day. When I run out of those, I’ll take a break (unless I’m inspired to write a new one… you never know what might happen!)
I’ll also try to add at least one entry in Kabize’s journal each week.
This is good through December 20th. On the 21st, I’m having surgery on both my elbows. I talked about this previously. Go find the post if you’re interested. (I don’t feel like digging it up and adding a link. Sorry.) I don’t know how long I’ll be disabled, but I’m figuring at least two weeks.
Before I go, I want to wish everyone the happiest Thanksgiving possible. This goes out not just to my friends in the U.S., but to all the friends who’ve been following me and reading my stuff all around the world. (We added two new countries this week: Spain and Kenya, Thank you very much!) I’m thankful for the positive support and encouragement I’ve received from those of you who have taken the time to do more than click “Like.” … I’m encouraged by you guys, too, but sometimes, I really wish you would comment. Tell me more than Like – tell me WHAT you like about it!
And finally, as a parting holiday gift, I wrote this new poem the other day that I’d like to share. Enjoy!
Love and Hate (A Poet’s Perspective)
© W. Scott Grant, November 20, 2017 3:00 pm
A poet should never end a line with the word “Love.”
What in the world could you be thinking Of?
There are only so many words that rhyme like a Glove.
There’s Dove and Shove, but little else from Above.
I prefer a word that, right out of the Gate.
Has more options than one can Disseminate.
Why should we ever try to Discriminate?
There’s no Debate. It all comes down to Fate.
I’ll Elaborate; I wouldn’t want to Skate.
Straight from the the Crate, this word is Great.
No one can State any reason to Equivocate.
The count of rhyming words far exceeds Eight.
At this Late Date, there’s no more reason to Wait.
The more versatile word for the poet is “Hate.”
