Another poem “off the cuff”

Slinking along comes the cat
Who hungers for the pier rat
Claws unsheathed, teeth bared and sharp
Stalking, stalking, in the dark
Fur is ruffled on her back
As she senses coming attack
Nearer, nearer, to the prey
Now the critics own the day!

This poem was written “off the cuff” in response to something someone had written “online.” Consider the date! Online, at the time, referred to a bulletin board service (BBS) that required a direct dial modem-to-modem connection. In my free time at the job I was working at during that time, I connected to several local BBS’s. My online handle during that time period was “Blind Ref.”
