What does it mean when a question
~ Is left unanswered?

Dispense with the metaphor
And share the feeling within
This page is safe
~ burn it tomorrow
~ burn it now
~ remove those thoughts of self-preservation
~ tear down the wall

Dispense with the metaphor
And share the feeling within
Is there an answer
~ to the question?
~ can there be one?
~ do I want to hear it?
~ like the end of the second act
~ where the audience sits
~ in eager anticipation

Dispense with the metaphor
And share the feeling within
Is the answer yes?
~ does it mean
~ there’s a chance?
~ an opportunity
~ to ride off into the sunset together
~ and live Happily Ever-After

Dispense with the metaphor
And share the feeling within
But if the answer is no
~ where does it leave me?
~ still alone
~ still crying
~ my heart shattered like the glass
~ after the stone’s impact

Dispense with the metaphor
And share the feeling within
My life is in limbo
~ not knowing what to do
~ perhaps the question
~ never made it through
~ like Schrödinger’s cat I wonder
~ what I should do

Dispense with the metaphor
And share the feeling within

And perhaps,
~ I should ask the question again.
