You know I don’t like symbols
For empty they sometimes are
The same is true for rituals
That stretch the truth too far.

But at times these things are needed
A metaphor with meaning deep
So, I offer this ring to you
A token for you to keep.

It means that I am your friend
And to you I will be true
I will endeavor to make changes
To become a better man for you.

By accepting this you say to me
You know the commitment made
The promise I offer you
I expect nothing in trade.

Now you have a choice to make
Put it on, or maybe not
Consequences you must consider
As deeper meaning is wrought.

It implies a contract of love
That you will do the same for me
Either way, I want you to know,
You are forever free.
