Tears wend their silken way
Lying silent on my cheeks
Shards of sunlit happiness
Lie broken ‘round my feet.

Why wish you this destruction?
Wrought by malicious tongue
With careful self-abandon
Giving voice to scornful thought.

Why? you whom I believe
To be daughter of my soul
You whom I love very much
Why do you hurt me so?
